The Italian (الطلياني : رواية) By Shukri Mabkhout
A novel in the Arabic language, the 2015 International Prize for Arabic fiction, by Tunisian writer Shukri al-Mabkhout (b. 1962). The story was written in the aftermath of the Arab spring. It is set in Tunisia during the period between two leaders, Habib Bourguiba's presidency (1957-1987) and Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali's presidency (1987-2011). It follows the adventures of the main character, while also examining Tunisia under the two dictatorships.
